Jason Armstrong Baker MT-BC is a professional drummer, music therapist and educator. Since 2001, he has been using music as a tool to engage academic learning and psychosocial development, with the focus of his work to awaken and develop individual potential. Be it in a therapeutic, artistic or educational setting, Jason seeks to provide experiences where people may discover and own their unique strengths.
Currently, Jason provides music therapy services in numerous settings, including the Veterans Affairs health system and an after school program at Paul’s Place in Pigtown, Baltimore. He is also the music coordinator and an accompanist for the Department of Dance at Towson University and has created an arts-integrated geography program, Sounds Around the World, which was recently adopted into the social studies curriculum for Baltimore City Public Schools.
He earned a bachelors degree in Professional Music from Berklee College of Music (1999), studied percussion in Cuba (2000); and studied yoga, meditation, and drumming as a resident at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health (2001).
In 2006, he received his graduate certificate in music therapy from Shenandoah University. Jason was the staff music therapist on the adolescent male crisis stabilization unit at Sheppard Pratt Health System in Towson, Maryland from 2007 – 2012.
His latest endeavor Sounds Around The World, is a music-integrated geography game designed for 5th - 12th grade students. Sounds Around has been played with over 2000 students. Learn More
